Yesterday, Ian (from ianfernando.com) showed me a new advertising method he’d put on his blog, and I think it has a lot of potential, so much so that I’ll be integrating it into the next version of OIOpublisher for Wordpress.
I know the phrase ‘feedvertising’ has been coined before, but I don’t care, it fits well. It works by pulling the last 3 RSS feed entries from an advertiser’s blog, and displaying them neatly within the article. He also used a slick ajax interface to load them, which I like.
I think it could be a winner for those blogs with a decent readership base, since they could sell off site wide spots (within all posts) for a few days, which should result in some click-throughs (assuming the content is relevant). Expect to see this advertising solution in OIOpublisher soon.
Update: as well as now being an advertising option in OIOpublisher, you can now download a stand-alone plugin I have created, called FeedBlast. I’m using it on this very blog to advertise my RSS Feed within posts.
