Progress Update, OIO 2.0
Published by Simon on June 17th, 2008A number of people have been asking me about the new version, so here’s an update.
Is there an ETA yet?
No; it’s done when I’m happy with it. That’s all you’re getting for now!
How’s development progressing?
I’m extremely happy with it so far. It now runs on a very robust core that should be able to throw out a lot of pageviews with minimum resource usage. It will run as a standalone ad server if wanted, but it also looks and functions almost exactly the same when used as a Wordpress plugin as the current version does - which itself is an achievement, I think.
How will it perform?
You won’t find any big new features in the 2.0 release; that was never the aim. What I’m attempting to do is create a far more versatile script, that performs and scales better, without losing the close integration with the Wordpress platform.
There is a brand new database and caching engine in place (it’s good enough that I’m actually now using the same mechanism in ViralBlogAds.com!). Several caching options are available: filecache, memcache, xcache, and eaccelerator - which should mean something for everyone.
There are up to 4 main database queries executed when displaying ads (depending on your chosen configuration), all of which are cached by default. This should mean the script produces no extra load on the database! There’s also a handy shared memory class that (if available) will power the stats tracker. That means no strain on the database from countless INSERT queries when tracking stats anymore.
Anything else new then?
There are a few other planned changes, such as the ability to upload banners to your own server, and a url rewrite option (if you don’t like long urls). The “links” options will also be converted to a text ad zone model (as banners / html are now), but still kept separate from the banner options.
Will I be able to use OIO 2.0 with scripts other than Wordpress?
Yes, although Wordpress will be the only officially supported 3rd party script initially. However, since the script can be run as a standalone ad server, you will be able to easily use it with any other script.

I am having a problem.
I cannot register with oiopublisher.com to purchase the product.
I have tried IE and FF browser and neither show me the Visual Security Code that I need to enter into the box.
I could not send a CONTACT message either because of that reason.
If the Security Code is not showing, how do I register and purchase the product?
Thanks for your help.

Odd, the security codes are showing correctly for me.
I’ll check it out later, but I’d certainly recommend clearing the browser cookies / cache and trying once more.
If the problem persists, send me an email at admin[at]oiopublisher[dot]com

I am trying to list a new blog in the marketplace but your visual confirmation graphic is not showing up, so I can’t complete the listing.
